➤ WHY NOT USE A "NATURAL" FERMENTED PRESERVATIVE LIKE LEUCIDAL MAX?​

Many clean-beauty brands use natural, plant-derived ferments like Leucidal MAX (made from fermented radishes or Lactobacillus bacteria). We actually have these ingredients on hand and love the concept, but we made a conscious choice not to rely on them for our water-based facial serums for three critical reasons:
 

1. The "Hurdle" Problem:  While natural fermented ingredients provide mild antimicrobial protection, they are not true "broad-spectrum" heavy hitters on their own. To make a product safe with Leucidal, a formulator has to combine multiple natural antimicrobials, strictly control pH ranges, and hope the batch doesn't crash.

 

2. High Failure Rates:  In real-world testing and lab conditions, natural fermented systems fail challenge tests far more often than synthetic ones. If a natural preservative fails, your serum could be harboring high levels of mold or bacteria long before you can physically see it or smell it.

3. High Usage Levels:  To get decent protection out of Leucidal MAX, you have to use a massive amount in the formula—usually 2% to 4% of the entire batch. By comparison, Liquid Germall Plus does an elite, airtight job at just 0.2% to 0.5%. We prefer to use a tiny fraction of a bulletproof synthetic shield so we can fill the remaining 99.5% of your bottle with active, skin-loving botanical extracts.

• Why is my facial oil or balm a vibrant blue?

If you open one of our repair products and see a deep blue or teal hue, you are looking at pure botanical magic, not artificial food coloring. This beautiful shade comes entirely from a natural compound called chamazulene. Chamazulene is found inside precious essential oils like Blue Tansy and German Chamomile.

 

Interestingly, the flowers themselves are actually bright yellow! However, during the gentle steam distillation process used to extract the oil, a natural chemical reaction occurs that transforms the plant's heat-sensitive components into a rich, deep indigo blue. We do not use heavy, synthetic chemical binding agents (like PEG compounds) to lock our ingredients in a rigid, frozen state. Yes, especially during transit in the colder months. Because we formulate with raw, natural lipids and rich plant butters (like plum kernel or pistachio oil), our formulas are highly temperature-sensitive. When exposed to cold air during shipping, these natural fatty acids can thicken or look slightly cloudy. This is completely normal and does not alter the quality of the product. Simply let the bottle sit at room temperature for a day, or warm it between your hands, and it will return to its signature, silky fluid state.
